MEET RESULTS

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – 
After nearly a month off from competition, the Boise State men’s and women’s cross country teams opened October with a bang, placing second and third, respectively, at the highly touted Bill Dellinger Invitational. The unranked Bronco men nearly knocked off No. 4Oregon, finishing just seven points behind the Ducks, while the women finished behind No. 7 Washington and No. 5 Oregon at Springfield Country Club, Saturday (Oct. 5). 


The men’s race was tight throughout the 8-kilometer course with No. 4 Oregon edging out the Broncos with 32-points; Boise State finished with 39-points. Washington (unranked) placed third in the team race with 87-points tying with No. 8 Portland, while Gonzaga placed fifth with 121-points. 

The Bronco men were led by Allan Schroeder who placed fifth overall, fourth out of the collegians, covering the course in a time of 24:19. Drew O’donoghue-McDonald finished two spots behind in a time of 24:23, while David Elliott was eighth in 24:24. Jeff Howard placed 10th in 24:27 andAaron Back in 11th (24:31) to round out the scoring Broncos. Zach Wiles was the final Bronco, placing 29th in 25:11. 

Washington’s Aaron Nelson won the individual men’s title, clocking 23:55 to defeat the 115-person field. 

Boise State’s women ran a solid race as well, placing third with 63-points. No. 7 Washington scored 30-points and No. 5 Oregon earned 52-points to place first and second, while Portland (81-points) and Wichita State (163-points) finished in fourth and fifth. 

The Bronco’s Emma Bates was the top collegian in the women’s race clocking a time of 16:35 on the 5-kilometer course. Bates was second overall in the 102-person field after unattached runner Alexa Efraimson edged her out at the finish (16:35). Fellow Bronco Marisa Howard picked up a third-place finish (16:50), while Lauren Lucas (17:37) and Erin McLaughlin(17:39) placed 17th and 18th, respectively. Kate Jette wrapped up the scoring Broncos with a 24th-place finish (17:49).Shannon Susbauer (17:54) and Taryn Treadway (17:56) also raced for the Broncos, placing 27th and 31st, respectively. 

The Broncos will prepare for their final regular season meet, October 19, in Terre Haute, Ind. There Indiana State will host the 2013 Pre-National Invitational which will feature over 200 teams from across the country.
