Oregon Women, Portland Men Win Oregon Bill Dellinger Cross Country InvitationalPublished by
Oregon and Portland Split Team Titles at Dellinger InvitationalBy Adam Kopet The Oregon women dominated Friday at the Oregon Bill Dellinger Cross Country Invitational, sweeping the top seven places of the 6-kilometer race at Springfield Country Club, scoring a perfect 15 points. The Ducks ran as a pack for much of the race, with Susan Ejore getting the win in 19:32.7, just ahead of Weronika Pyzik, Jessica Hull and Carmela Cardama Baez. The top four Oregon runners finished within about two seconds of each other. Rounding out the Oregon seven were Isabelle Brauer, Philippa Bowden and Amanda Gehrich. Three Nevada runners, Lindsey Sickler, Hiley Dobbs and Cora Gallop, rounded out the top 10 and helped give Nevada a second-place team finish, scoring 62 points. UC Davis, Portland and Seattle University finished third, fourth and fifth. Watch the women's race on RunnerSpace.com. The men's race proved to be far closer, with Portland earning the win with 25 points over Oregon with 38 points. Portland sophomore Reuben Kiprono won the individual race. His time of 24:39.5 was about 15 seconds ahead of second-place Cooper Teare, who ran unattached for Oregon and did not figure into the team score. Junior Jackson Mestler was Oregon's top scorer Friday, finishing third, just ahead of Justin Hazell of Portland, who was running unattached. Junior Tristan Peloquin rounded out the top five individual places for the Pilots. Portland put three scoring runners in the top six and five in the top 14 to secure the win. Oregon's Reed Brown competed unattached, finishing seventh. Seattle University finished third and UC Davis finished fourth in the team scoring. Watch the men's race on RunnerSpace.com. |
