This weekend emphasized the theme of pack running as major upsets took place due to men's teams successfully executing this strategy. On Friday at the Notre Dame Invitational the #2 Florida State women beat an incomplete (their three top freshmen did not run) #4 Duke squad (led by the win of grad student Juliet Bottorff) and scraped by an underranked #21 New Mexico squad 77-82. Coach Karen Harvey is happy with the early progress of her team. Pack running tactics helped #30 Columbia defeat a highly ranked field including #7 Tulsa and #9 Princeton. Results Abbey D'Agostino dominated the Paul Short Run for the second year in a row. Expected heavy battles in the team races ended up in many teams resting top runners for the upcoming major meets. #30 Dartmouth women and unranked men surprised with runner-up finishes. #6 Georgetown women and #15 Indiana Men took close battles with Dartmouth. Results High School junior Alexa Ephraimson impressed everyone by outkicking Emma Bates at the Bill Dellinger Invitational as #7 Washington beat #5 Oregon. The #4 Oregon Men, led by super frosh Edward Cheserek, dominated an undermanned #8 Portland team and were challendged 32-39 by a pack-running Boise State squad. Results Men's Race Women's Race At the Chile Pepper XC Festival, #6 Arkansas men took 3 of the first 5 men's spots to beat #27 Villanova 31-44 as defending NCAA champion Kennedy Kithuka edged a well-rested Kemoy Campbell of Arkansas.
