Ducks to Don Pink for Dellinger Invitational Teams to recognize National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; men’s race will open competition at 11:45 a.m.
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon men’s and women’s cross country teams will be wearing pink at Saturday’s Bill Dellinger Invitational, UO Associate Athletic Director Vin Lananna announced on Wednesday. The Ducks will be donning special singlets, donated by Nike, in recognition of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The special uniforms will be unveiled at Thursday’s media opportunity, which takes place at 1:45 p.m. at the Bowerman Building.
The fifth annual Bill Dellinger Invitational will be held Saturday on Pre’s Trail in Alton Baker Park. The men’s race will now open the competition at 11:45 a.m., followed by the women at 12:30 p.m., which is a slight change from the initial schedule.
The Men and Women of Oregon will wear a white singlet with “OREGON” in classic lettering arced across the chest. The throwback style top is based on what the Duck men wore in 1969 when a freshman named Steve Prefontaine led Oregon to its first cross country NCAA title.
“This idea was brought to us by the student-athletes and we’re excited that we’re able to make it happen,” said Lananna.
Following the Dellinger meet, the singlets will be auctioned on line at goducks.com. Proceeds from that auction will be donated to the Willamette Valley Cancer Institute.
Fans attending Saturday’s race are encouraged to wear pink.
